Posting Summary The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers,
The State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a
full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. The faculty member
will hold a clinical appointment in Inpatient Behavioral Health at
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. The pharmacy
school is recognized at all levels—local, state, national, and
international—as offering one of the most challenging, dynamic, and
rewarding programs leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Alongside supportive faculty and staff, students at the school
develop a foundation for learning that lasts well beyond
graduation. The Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration
emphasizes the clinical and regulatory aspects of pharmacy
practice. Its mission is to prepare students to deliver
pharmaceutical care in various practice settings. Graduates are
equipped with the skills needed to adapt to a constantly evolving
healthcare environment. Students also gain a solid foundation in
scientific principles, ethics, and attitudes necessary for lifelong
adaptation to changes in healthcare. This mission supports the
overall goals of the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in four key
areas: teaching, practice, scholarship, and service. Robert Wood
Johnson University Hospital Somerset ( RWJUH Somerset) is a 343-bed
community hospital in Somerville, NJ, serving as a teaching site
for Rutgers University and hosting the Somerset Family Medicine
Residency Program. It has earned national recognition for clinical
quality and safety, including the Magnet® Award for Nursing
Excellence and an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from Leapfrog. In 2025,
it was named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades,
ranking in the top 5% nationally. RWJUH Somerset was also
recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Health Care Equality” by the Human
Rights Campaign, becoming the first NJ hospital to provide primary
care for the LGBTQIA community. The hospital remains committed to
delivering high-quality care, continuously adopting the latest
evidence and technology. This inpatient psychiatry unit (5W) has 27
beds and serves both voluntary and involuntary psychiatric
patients. Care includes daily multidisciplinary rounds for every
patient and daily therapeutic group sessions. Once stabilized,
patients are transferred from 5W to the onsite partial
hospitalization program and clinic for ongoing care. Additionally,
the outpatient eating disorder unit has 20 beds, with daily
psychiatry rounds and group sessions. While the position focuses on
inpatient care, there is room for growth to support other
psychiatry services. The Behavioral Health clinical pharmacist
faculty member will collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and
medical staff to optimize patient care in our Behavioral Health
program across inpatient, emergency department, and ambulatory
(outpatient offices/clinics) settings, with a primary focus on
inpatient care. The faculty member will organize, develop, and
participate in clinical and quality improvement activities.
Clinical activities include, but are not limited to the following:
practice under collaborative practice agreement to optimize
inpatient and outpatient pharmacotherapy, participation in quality
initiatives to reduce readmissions, enhance medication access,
participation in multidisciplinary rounds, provide
interprofessional education, collaboration on policy and procedure
development, committee participation, perform research and
medication use evaluations, conduct dosing consults, support
Medication Assistance Treatment initiatives, provide community
outreach support, and precept Advanced Pharmacy Practice
Experiential students and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
Somerset Post-graduate year 1 pharmacy practice residents on their
psychiatry rotation. Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy
degree and have completed at least two years of residency training
with a PGY -2 in psychiatry/Behavioral Health or equivalent
experience. Candidates must be highly motivated, innovative, and
team-oriented and possess excellent communication and interpersonal
skills to provide patient-centered care with a commitment to
teaching, service, and professional advancement. Board
certification is preferred. Eligibility for licensure as a
pharmacist in the State of New Jersey is required.
